Ugandan Paper Beads
Students explored the significance of beadmaking in Uganda, then created a jewelry piece of their choice using the traditional Ugandan method.
Metal Symbol Pendants
Creating these pendants gave students the opportunity to work with traditional metalworking techniques. They researched a variety of symbols and meanings, then modified the symbols to their artistic tastes. Students then cut and finished the pieces from sheet metal.
Clay Beads
Students experimented with techniques for manipulating oven-bake clay. All students embellished the traditional bead design by modifying shapes, adding unique colors, utilizing texture, or creating indiviudal characters. They made their beads into whatever type of jewelry piece they chose.
Monster Pendants-Collaboration with Minnesota 1st Graders!
A group of Minnesota 1st graders created monster drawings for our Jewelry class to make into pendants. Using methods they learned during the clay bead project, students created a pendant that resembled their chosen 1st grade drawing as closely as possible. Some students chose to keep with the scribbly 1st grade style, and others chose to modify it for the purpose of craftsmanship. Below are the finished pendants and inspiration drawings!
Metal Rings
Students created a ring design, then cut, finished, and shaped it from sheet metal.
